Celebrating the International Day of Monuments and Sites

On the occasion of the International Day of Monuments and Sites, which is celebrated on April 18 every year, the Foundation for the Preservation of the Cultural Heritage of Rabat, chaired by Her Royal Highness Princess Lalla Hasnaa, organized guided tours of the monuments and historical sites of the city of Taroudant for the benefit of more than 1,000 schoolchildren , students and teachers of the city of Taroudant.

Thus, the students visited the sites and monuments of Taroudant, including ramparts, historical gates, the Kasba, the garden of Ibrahim Roudani, the great mosque, the Zaouïas and the medina.

These visits to monuments and heritage sites are supervised by a team of heritage experts, including site curators and inspectors of historic monuments.

In a statement to MAP, Mouna Bel Bakri, in charge of educational programs at the Foundation for the Preservation of Cultural Heritage of Rabat, pointed out that students of 15 elementary schools and 20 secondary schools benefited from this initiative as part of the Foundation’s educational programs. “Discovering My Heritage-Taroudant” and “I Draw My Heritage-Taroudant”.

These two programs were launched in partnership with the Ministry of National Education, Preschool Education and Sports, as well as the Ministry of Youth, Culture and Communications and the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) and in collaboration with ICOMOS Morocco and the National Institute for Agricultural Research, she said.

For his part, the coordinator of the heritage program at the Regional Academy of Education and Training of Souss-Massa, Miloud Azerhoun, said that the organization of these visits to Taroudant sites and monuments for the benefit of schoolchildren is part of the implementation. of the partnership agreement that connects the Ministry of National Education, Preschool and Sports Education and the Foundation for the Protection of the Cultural Heritage of Rabat.
And let’s add that this educational initiative is aimed specifically at strengthening cultural and artistic education in educational processes.

For his part, the regional curator of cultural heritage in Souss-Massa, Zineb Amrani, indicated that this educational action aimed at schoolchildren, students and teachers in the city of Taroudant aims to promote the cultural heritage and historical sites of this thousand-year-old city.

According to the Foundation for the Preservation of Cultural Heritage of Rabat, educational programs have been launched in Taroudant to educate and raise awareness among the city’s children about the importance of protecting historical monuments and sites, especially in response to the challenges posed by natural disasters, including the Al Haouz earthquake that occurred last September .

With its numerous projects, the Foundation strives to convey the values ​​of heritage to young people and awaken their curiosity about their cultural heritage, encouraging them to discover, appreciate and protect historical treasures, thereby promoting their personal development and contributing to the preservation of cultural heritage. wealth for future generations.

The foundation with its partners is establishing educational kits and tools to facilitate access to cultural heritage and their concepts, especially “Discovering my heritage-Taroudant” which contains activities of research, expression and debate, writing on topics related to the city’s heritage.

It also raises students’ awareness of visual and artistic creativity through the “Draw my heritage” program, which encourages young people to research, create and develop their imagination for heritage preservation.

Teachers and education leaders overseeing these classroom programs benefit from training overseen by cultural, heritage and visual arts professionals.
