Ryan Garcia misses the weigh-in and has to pay $1.5 million to Devin Haney

A weight of 1.5 million dollars. This is the amount boxer Ryan Garcia’s clan will have to pay opponent Devin Haney due to weight overload. Beer in hand, the sultry 25-year-old boxer drank a dry bottle before coming forward for the weigh-in. The lightweight showed 1.4 kg excess weight. An overprice that is not surprising to Garcia who himself had bet $500,000 for every extra pound over the limit.

The extravagant boxer, who has a record of 24-1 including 20 by knockout, will still have the right to fight in the ring against Devin Haney, WBC super-lightweight champion (31-0). The latter leaves a winner since, in addition to validating his weigh-in, he negotiated with his opponent a check for 1.5 million dollars as financial compensation.

The WBC welterweight belt, which was on the line, will remain in Haney’s hands because of this latest incident. The fight will take place on Sunday, April 21 at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York. It will be broadcast on the DAZN streaming platform.
