Looking back at the opening of the astronomical dome.

Emmanuel Thiers, founder of Astronomade, Catherine Marlas, president of the Regional Natural Park, and Jacques Vaquier, mayor of the city, inaugurated on Wednesday, April 17, the astronomical dome in Saint-Martin-Labuval in the presence of President Jean-Claude Sauvier. This equipment complements the discovery and stargazing capabilities of Causses du Quercy.

What makes the Regional Natural Park special is that it is one of the rare areas in mainland France that is protected from light pollution and offers night skies of exceptional quality. The park has been working for almost 15 years to protect and improve its nightlife through a wide variety of projects: supporting municipalities to switch off street lighting, awareness tools, educational programs, facility development, tourism stakeholder education, community events. … Today this “preserved night” has become a real legacy of the identity of Causses du Quercy.

Emmanuel Thiers offers starry events and workshops to explore and discover astronomy. This activity is open to everyone, from beginners to aspiring astronomers, families and travelers looking for a new experience. It benefits from the regional brand Valeurs Parc naturall.

Next meeting: an observation evening is planned in Kras on Sunday 12 May from 22:00, after the transhumance twilight walk around 2042.
