Pro D2 – “It feels good to bounce back”, breathes Jason Fraser (Nevers)

Out of the top 6 a week earlier after their defeat at Montauban (17-16 after leading 16-3 twenty minutes from the end), the USON Nevers Rugby players calmed down by clearly dominating Colomiers (35-14), who came to Nièvre to seek a victory and maintain a hope of qualification. Third-line center Jason Fraser, author of one of the four Nevers tries, confides in relief without getting excited.

After five losses in your last six games, this win against Colomiers is a real relief, we imagine…

It is true that we had some pressure after our three defeats in a row in this block. Each time we lost because of a lack of control at the end of the game, in the very last minutes. We are happy to have got everything back in place this evening.

You still had a more complicated period left, around the hour mark, where Colomiers had more testing opportunities…

In a rugby match there are always ups and downs. We kept our backs round, and we absorbed a lot of pressure. I am proud of the team for this achievement. It feels good to be back. Home loss against Grenoble (22-19, Nevers’ only setback in Pré-Fleuri this season, editor’s note) had stung us.

You made Colomiers suffer in the scrum and touchline. Is it in these sectors that you have made the difference?

Conquest is one of our essential weapons and tonight it worked well. We were also more realistic, we had worked well on this point this week.

There was a lot of tension in this match, with two red cards and five yellow cards. Is it the effort in this match that explains it?

In the first leg (28-3 defeat, editor’s note) Colomiers were in the game, more aggressive than us. So we told ourselves that here it was forbidden for them to do the same thing again. We didn’t want to be hit on the back of the head (sic); we didn’t give up.

You have three games left, two at home against Soyaux-Angoulême and Dax, and a trip to Béziers. Tonight (Friday) you are still seventh. That means we have to fight to the last game, against Dax, and maybe also seek points in Béziers, to qualify?

We always have this pressure, but we know how we have to play. We must stick to what we know how to do.
