Mauritania-Germany: joint projects in the field of energy and the agri-food industry

Initialed by the Mauritanian Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development, Abdessalam Ould Mohamed Saleh and the Director of the German Institute for Research and Development IFAS, Peter Heck, this MoU concerns the launch of a multi-sectoral energy project that includes the installation of solar energy and wind power plants and the development of reforestation projects, the agri-food industry and the production of drinking water.

This project is based on the reforestation of a vast area in the heart of the Mauritanian desert, using desalination through renewable energy sources and the creation of a sustainable economic system around the planted area, including forestry and carbon storage, it said Mauritanian Ministry of the Economy.

On this occasion, Mr. Ould Mohamed Saleh indicated that the project is based on hydrogen deep in the Mauritanian desert through renewable energy sources and the creation of a sustainable economic system around the cultivated area, including the exploitation forests and carbon storage.

The first Mauritanian-German high-level forum on investment opportunities in green hydrogen will be held in the Mauritanian capital with the participation of Mauritanian energy sector officials and German partners.

Forum participants will focus on several themes, including developing innovative financing mechanisms and purchasing agreements for green hydrogen projects and strengthening energy infrastructure.
