the captain of Saint-Nazaire will take orders after the final of the French championship

In an interview given to Western France, Ludovic Duée, the captain of the Saint-Nazaire volleyball club, explains that after the final of the French championship he will end his career. The 32-year-old has decided to take holy orders.

An unexpected transformation. This week, Ludovic Duée undoubtedly plays the last two professional matches of his volleyball career. Facing Tours (Wednesday 24 April at 8pm, then Sunday 28 April at 7pm), he is preparing to play the first final of the French Championship in the history of the Saint-Nazaire club, and as captain as well. But the future will then be written elsewhere, and very differently.

“A choice made in advance”

Asked by Western France, the 32-year-old explains that he intends to put an end to his sports career to take on another, more spiritual challenge, by taking… orders. “It is by no means a choice by default, it is the choice between a profession and a profession, and it is a choice made in advance that I voluntarily wanted to be free from the depths of my being”, – he explains.

Coming from a practicing Catholic family, he specifies that he believed in God, but until now kept to the “minimum union level”. It was the Covid period that made him question his faith. “I had the chance to meet the community of canons in Lagrasse. They were super welcoming and answered all my questions about discomfort.”

“I discovered that God loved me and that he only wanted one thing, that I love him too,” says the captain of the Nazairiens.

Ludovic Duée will therefore return to postulancy at the end of the season, but according to him, the transition between his career as a high-level volleyball player and a man of faith may not be so far away: “Schedule set , community life… It’s a group with schedules moving in the same direction, it’s clearly reminiscent of what I’ve been doing for years,” he explains.
