Football: “Such a punishment was inevitable…” Dutch club where a former TFC player plays receives an 18-point withdrawal

the necessary
Vitesse Arnhem has received a very heavy sanction from the Dutch Football Association for breaching the licensing requirements. The formation of Nicolas Isimat-Mirin, Toulouse during the 2019-2020 season, is therefore already doomed to relegation.

And no, it’s not just Branco van den Boomen who is a former TFC player now playing in the Netherlands… It’s actually Nicolas Isimat-Mirin too. The defender, now aged 32, was loaned out by Besiktas club (D1 Turkey) during the 2019-2020 season, the year the Violets were relegated to Ligue 2.

4 years later, the French experienced another descent into hell with the club Vitesse Arnhem where Said Hamulic also played at the start of the season (on loan from TFC). Last in the Eredivisie championship (D1 Netherlands), the “yellow and black” suffered a heavy sanction that leaves them in this place with a red light, but with a total now of “-1 point” in the ranking.

They were given an 18-point deduction by the Dutch Football Association “for not meeting the licensing requirements”. Some concerns related to club takeover issues had already cost them a €100,000 sanction last February.

“This is the harsh reality”

Through its (temporary) general manager, Edwin Reijntjes, Vitesse Arnhem assures that they do not wish to appeal this decision, knowing that sooner or later this was bound to happen. “While it is a dark day for everyone who cares about Vitesse, it is after all the harsh reality, such a punishment was inevitable,” he said in a statement.

ℹ️ Vitesse gets eighteen points in care, but kept (for the time being) her license.

Reijntjes: “In the reaction of the licentiecommissie, it is clear that we read that the trust is in the new course of the club.

The latter would be satisfied with this sanction alone: ”On the other hand – and I really want to make this clear to everyone – we are extremely happy with the opportunity that was offered to us to keep our license a wire. […] I have already said it: Vitesse must not and cannot disappear, he continued.

After 35 years in the elite of Dutch football, the club will fight in the second division next year.
