Samsung’s solution to counter Snapdragon 8 Gen 4

The launch of the Galaxy S24 and Galaxy S24+ marked the return of Exynos to Samsung’s top smartphones. Unlike the Galaxy S23 series, which is fully equipped with Snapdragon chips, the manufacturer offers different versions depending on the country. Thus, the Galaxy S24 and S24+ are equipped with the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 processor from Qualcomm in the US. On the other hand, European models are entitled to Exynos 2400, while Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 is reserved for the Ultra model.

A difference in handling that does not necessarily suit French users. Models with Exynos processors tend to be less efficient than their Snapdragon counterparts. The Exynos 2400 shows that Samsung is on the right track and that its SoC is not without its shortcomings in terms of performance and power efficiency.

More efficient than Snapdragon 8 Gen 4, more powerful than Exynos 2400.

In accordance with @PandaFlashPro on X (formerly Twitter), the South Korean firm will go even further with the Exynos 2500 SoC. This chip, which could power the Galaxy S25 line, will be more efficient than the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4. The second-generation manufacturing process is 3mm. Samsung Foundry will be more efficient than TSMC’s, also on the 3nm process that Qualcomm plans to use for the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4. More efficient than its US rival, it will also offer superior performance over the Exynos 2400 while consuming less energy. energy. The issue of energy efficiency is even more interesting for high-performance chips than the performance level.

The promise is interesting to both the manufacturer and the market. The return of the Exynos SoC to the forefront will offer an alternative to high-end Qualcomm and MediaTek chips. This is also good news for Europe and therefore for France. Indeed, the Exynos 2500-powered Galaxy S25 could launch in these regions.

One chip, two versions

On the technical side, there are rumors that Samsung is preparing two variants of its next chipset. The Exynos 2500-A will have an octa-core processor and will be designed for Galaxy smartphones. The Exynos 2500-B will have 10 cores and will power the Galaxy Tab and Galaxy Book.

The new chip will use Tensor Processing Units (TPUs) from Google Tensor SoC, rather than the Neural Processing Units (NPUs) used in the Exynos 2400. On the graphics side (GPU), we’re expecting the Xclipse 950.

The Samsung Galaxy S25 is not due to be unveiled until January 2025. Between now and release, new elements should emerge, especially regarding AI performance. In the case of Galaxy AI, this topic becomes a major issue for Samsung and its Galaxy smartphones.
