The UN is asking for $1.2 billion to help two million people

These funds will enable the UN Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) to address the humanitarian crisis in the Gaza Strip and respond to needs in the West Bank, the UN press service announced.

This urgent appeal covers UNRWA’s humanitarian response until the end of this year, the same source said, noting that the aid is aimed at meeting the most urgent needs of 1.7 million Palestinians in Gaza and more than 200,000 Palestinian refugees in the West Bank, including East Jerusalem .

UNRWA’s appeal is part of a $2.8 billion global appeal launched by the United Nations last week.

Last October, the UN launched an initial appeal for $294 million in emergency donations. This appeal was amended in early November to $1.2 billion to meet the most urgent needs of 2.7 million people in Gaza and the West Bank for the period until the end of 2023.
