The qualifier against Chelsea in 2015, “an incredible memory” for Matuidi

The former midfielder, now 37 years old, played 295 games with the capital club, from 2011 to 2018. The 2018 world champion with the Blues therefore experienced the struggles, but also the joys of European games with Paris. One memory in particular comes to mind: the round of 16 in the Champions League in 2015 against Chelsea (2-2 and PSG qualification). Early sending off of Zlatan Ibrahimovic, back to score twice, extra time, goal saved from Thiago Silva…

“It’s an incredible memory, coming into extra time and still managing to come back after Hazard’s goal, 10 to 11, it was incredible, we put all our hearts into it,” Matuidi recalled. “It was a special year, one of my best with Paris.”

“I hope it will be this year for C1”

When asked about his regrets at never being able to cherish his dream of winning a C1 with PSG, the former France international (84 caps) wants to be philosophical. “We can always regret when we have not achieved the expected goals. There was once under Ancelotti, in 2012-2013, when we met the great Barça with Messi in the quarter-finals. It was not easy. I did not lose in the two games ( 2-2 in the first half, 1-1 in the second leg), but we were still eliminated… But having said that, I only have good memories, those were good years.

From now on, the young pensioner wants to see his former club get their first star in C1. “I hope it will be this year, it’s all for PSG to finally lift this big ears.”
