Launch of a monitoring and reporting project on the duty of vigilance

A new project for “Monitoring and reporting on the duty of vigilance in the automotive industry in Morocco” was launched on Wednesday in Casablanca, in the presence of the Minister of Industry and Trade, Ryad Mezzour.

This project, funded by the German Cooperation Agency (GIZ) and implemented by the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO), the Ministry of Industry and Trade and the Moroccan Association for the Automobile Industry and Construction (AMICA), aims to strengthen the capabilities of Moroccan small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in terms of duty of vigilance in the automotive industry.

This project, which also aims to strengthen the capabilities of automotive companies to identify, prevent and mitigate risks related to the environment and governance in their operations and their supply chains, thus reflects the continued commitment of the stakeholders of the parties to promote sustainability and sustainability. corporate social responsibility in the Moroccan automotive sector.

The project will include several key activities including raising awareness and training through awareness and training programs that will be offered to companies in the automotive sector, the development of monitoring and reporting tools and community involvement through dialogue and cooperation between government , businesses and stakeholders. , reports MAP.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr Mezzour estimated that the automotive industry must have the necessary vigilance tools to better integrate and manage global value chains (GVCs).
“The aim is to demonstrate that, despite external challenges, Morocco remains competitive and is able to improve its integration into global value chains, which is crucial for the development of the automotive sector,” explains Mr Mezzour.

Highlighting the opportunities and challenges of the sector, Mr. Mezzour affirmed that projects of this type stem from the need to provide automotive industry actors with effective tools, allowing them to assess and manage the risks of the market, to make this possible to make. ecosystem safer and more transparent, while ensuring compliance with environmental standards.

For his part, AMICA President Abdelmoumen Hakim emphasized that this project, which will facilitate the standardization of reporting processes, is essential for the deployment of best practices at all levels of the automotive industry.

“The automotive industry faces multiple future challenges, including adapting to new, cleaner and more sustainable mobility, and the evolution of industrial processes towards digitalization and decarbonization,” said Mr. Hakim.

For her part, the representative of the UNIDO countries in Morocco, Hanan Hanzaz, confirmed that Morocco is well positioned on the international stage for its efforts to decarbonize the industry, reinforcing the long-standing partnership between UNIDO and Morocco on various themes who have contributed to create a real success story in the context of South-South cooperation.

The launch of this project marks an important milestone in efforts to promote corporate social responsibility and sustainability in Morocco’s automotive industry.
