Lobna El Zabbal, the Moroccan star, chairs the short films and cinematic jury in Cannes

Accompanied by Marie Castel-Menchen Char, Claudine Nogaret, Paolo Moretti and Vladimir Perišić, Lubna Azabal will be responsible for awarding the Palme d’Or to short films, in addition to the three La Cinef awards dedicated to school films. The competition is expected to be intense, as eleven films will compete in this category, in addition to eighteen films selected for La Cinef.

Lubna Azabal, whose lead role in the film “Amal” by Moroccan director Jawad Ghaleb is currently receiving critical acclaim, commented enthusiastically on her nomination: “You who walk, there is no path, the path is made while walking.” Antonio Machado. The Cannes Film Festival is one of those paths that we dream of crossing. It’s an honor to focus on young directors submitting their short films and the paths they took to get there. I can’t wait to discover its riches. It’s a journey I want to be demanding and interested in, in short, step by step. Our choice in this legendary place is a message of love, global recognition and pride.

This year, Lobna El Zabbal is not the only Moroccan actress to shine on the Cannes Film Festival jury. Indeed, director Asmaa Al-Moudair, known for her famous film “Mother of All Lies,” will be part of the jury for the “Un Certain Regard” section, headed by the talented Xavier Dolan.
