What are the 14 destinations of the low-cost airline Transavia offered from Montpellier airport this summer?

Nicolas Hénin, deputy general manager, was in Montpellier on Thursday to present the summer offer.

It is Emmanuel Brehmer, chairman of the board of directors of the Montpellier Méditerranée airport company, who pays tribute to his guest of the day, Nicolas Hénin, deputy general manager of Transavia, the low-cost airline of the Air France group. “Transavia is the first partner of our platform”he emphasizes.

The observation could not be more true: this summer the green-white company will offer 14 destinations from Montpellier Méditerranée Airport. “It is true that the development we planned before the Covid-19 period did not take place, but we are still here”emphasizes this manager, who came on Thursday to present his company’s summer program.

The Mediterranean vocation

A particularly rich and diverse programme, with three new parts: Istanbul, Oran and Rabat. As a symbol of the company’s Mediterranean vocation, if we add Tunis, Rome or Athens. Certainly, Transavia closed Berlin, the destination it visited last year. But it has nevertheless increased its offering.

Transavia’s 14 summer destinations this summer

Three new international destinations will be created from Montpellier, signed by Transavia: Istanbul, Constantine and Rabat. They are added to other older ones, such as Tunis, Athens, Heraklion, Rome, Lisbon, Seville, Algiers, Oran, Marrakech, Rotterdam. As for the fourteenth destination, it is Paris Orly. Emmanuel Brehmer has great expectations for this. “In June, metro line 14 will go to Orly. This will significantly shorten access to the heart of Paris.”, he emphasizes. Hoping to find very quickly the 300,000 passengers lost at this destination since Covid. “Especially because Paris costs 14.50 euros with the extended line 14”. A far from negligible argument when choosing between the plane and the train.

“The Air France group’s strategy involves concentrating our efforts on Paris Orly Airport, explains Nicolas Hénin. We will develop our fleet there for two years. But at the end of this period we hope to regain momentum in the region and, why not, in Montpellier.”. Because, he emphasizes, “There is real potential here”.

An “airplane stationed all summer”

At the time, the company planned to base two aircraft on Montpellier’s tarmac. There has only been one so far. But why not for a second once the strategy around Paris Orly is well established? Meanwhile, Nicolas Hénin announced: “The plane in Montpellier will stay there all summer”. In other words: it is not “borrowed” for other purposes.

This summer, the company will offer a total of 420,000 seats on its various flights. This is just under a third more than in the summer of 2023. This shows the ambitions of the Montpellier company.
