Paris 2024 Olympics: Limoges police officer Cécile will be the “first rampart” of the Olympic flame for its relay

“It is a pride to represent Limoges.” Cécile does not shy away from her joy a few days before leaving for Marseille to receive the Olympic flame on French territory. This policeman from the Limoges police station was chosen a few months ago via a tender from Paris, and wanted to find volunteers to protect the flame.

“I didn’t hesitate for a second. tells this 44-year-old sports dynamic, It was obvious to me the values that sport radiates, respect and unity. It also combined my job as a police officer, with the values of commitment and dedication.“She was therefore chosen among the 400 candidates, the only representative from Haute-Vienne and, a fortiori, the only woman from Haute-Vienne. “It has always been a struggle for me to represent women, both in men’s professions such as the police, although they are available to both men and women with a variety of different professions, I have wanted to play football to show that a woman can play football as well as man” defends Cécile.

An important sports trip

Cécile originally comes from Poitiers and has been in Limousin since 2001 after experiences in the police in the Paris region and in Corsica. She also has a very long career in sports, as she tells it. “Basically, I have sports training, at STAPS in Poitiers. I played soccer for 15 years, for both boys and girls, and I’m now a super champion at running, mountain biking, even boxing.”

A physical condition that will help him follow the route of the flame, its 68 stages and its 20 kilometers per day. “I would be part of a group of runners, the first line of defense to protect the flame, in a procession that, like the Tour de France, will be like a caravan, between May 8 and until the arrival in Paris on May 26 . We will make sure that the flame reaches Paris.” Cécile explains. A mission that she accepts with pride, happiness and excitement.

“I have always identified with Marie-José Perec”

“My commitment is part of what the Olympics have given me a lot in my sporting journey.” stresses the one who now works at Police Secours at the Limoges police station. “I always wanted to identify with Marie-José Perec, to run as fast as her, but also with the players of the French women’s soccer team, like Eugénie Le Sommer, Wendie Renard…and I hope that they will be Olympic champions!“dreaming of Cécile, who when she’s on duty, won’t necessarily have time to enjoy the Olympics when she gets to Paris.”We will always be aware and supportive with colleagues on the ground to ensure safety.”

The flame will arrive in Paris for the opening of the Olympic Games on 26 July.
