Rune comes out on top against Navone in the 2nd round of the Masters 1000 in Madrid

Holger Rune (12th in the world) was in doubt, but he escaped the Mariano Navone (41st) trap this Friday in the second round of the Masters 1000 in Madrid. The Dane won 5-7, 7-6 [2]6-4 in 2 hours and 56 minutes of play.

After two hotly contested rounds – Navone served the match to 6-5 in the second set – it seemed that Rune would fly away in the last act (5-1). This was without counting a remarkable burst from the Argentine, who did not hesitate to unleash his punches to reverse the trend. Navone recovered to 5-4 and saved four match points before losing.

The Dane, who turns 21 in three days, will meet the winner of the match between the Dutchman Tallon Griekspoor and the Japanese Taro Daniel in the third round.
