Banks: 14.5 million account holders in Morocco

Analysis of data collected from banks shows that 14.5 million people will have an account at the end of 2022, an increase of 1.6% compared to 2021.

According to the National Financial Inclusion Strategy (SNIF) annual report, 39% of these people are women and only 3.8% have an account with an agency in rural areas.

The distribution by age shows that 91% of account holders are at least 25 years old, while this segment represents 78% of the adult population (+15 years old), according to this report prepared by Bank-Al Maghrib, the Ministry of Finance External Finance (DTFE), the Insurance and Social Security Supervisory Authority (ACAPS), the Moroccan Capital Market Authority (AMMC), the National Federation of Microcredit Associations (FNAM), the Moroccan Foundation for Financial Education (FMEF) and the Professional Association of Payment Institutions (APEP).

As for savings accounts, they reached 8 million holders at the end of 2022, compared to 8.2 million in 2021. 45% of savings account holders are women.

In terms of credit use, the number of beneficiaries at the end of 2022 was 3.3 million, of which 31% are women and 64% have a real estate or consumer loan.

For example, the share of adults with credit from a regulated institution reached 12%.
