140 traders display their products on 310 tables.

Roch Bourke was very proud of his purchase. Like the nearly 3,200 people who attended the 10th edition of the Coliseum’s garage sale, the Moncton man felt like he had landed a real little treasure.

After all, this engraving by the Acadian artist Guy Duguay became the seventh in a series of 10.

“To be honest, I had nothing to do and wanted to have a nice walk. I used to have a table here. I have to say I like dirty things!” he laughs.

“I didn’t want to find anything special, but in the end I found a little treasure. Besides, I was about to leave.

Roch Bourke is an artist himself, specializing in acrylic painting.

He also knew the late Guy Duguay as he had attended the Aberdeen Cultural Center since the 1980s.

“I saw it out of the corner of my eye. I was very surprised,” he enthuses.

“This is something Guy is not used to (engraving). I’m starting to do figurative work myself. So this discovery came at the right time.”

Jacinta Ferguson smiled widely, and behind her counter lay mostly pieces of blown glass of all kinds and colors.

A Rogersville antiques store owner displayed more than 300 items at the event, which was called “the largest flea market in the world.”

“We really like blown glassware, but we also have a lot of variety. Business is good. People actually came to buy,” she explains.

Monique Farrell of Shediac walked down the aisle with her daughter Molly.

“I saw it on Facebook and thought I had to come and see it. There are really a lot of things. What I like most is the variety. There’s a little bit of everything here,” she explains.

“I haven’t seen anything that really interests me yet, but we’ve only visited half the stalls. I’d say there’s a very good chance I’ll leave here with a few things. I especially need support for the candles.”

Event director John McKay was pleased to see so many people coming through the turnstiles at the Moncton Coliseum.

“This is a very good year. We see that all the traders are busy. We see renewed interest in the entire period. Many people recycle items to give them new life, especially young people.”

The event brought together 140 different traders who presented their products on 310 tables.

He is an avid collector himself, specializing in promotional items and everything related to the Coca-Cola Company.

“I’ve been in this business for almost 50 years. I’m not young anymore and I’m starting to slowly sell my things. I’m glad to see that many young people share my passion.”
