Climbing, balance, strength… Grand Défi lives up to its name. The largest treetop adventure park in the world, located in Saint-Julien-des-Landes, in the Vendée, reopened its doors on April 6, 2024, after welcoming 140,000 visitors in total last year. During this spring school holiday period, the Ouest-France editorial office in Sables-d’Olonne wanted to take on one of the 38 courses offered on the site.
As in skiing, the levels of difficulty are listed according to five colors: yellow, green, blue, red and black. For this test it was black, maximum difficulty, which was chosen by Fabien Grolleau, director of the activity.
Climbing, skydiving and zip lines
After a fifteen-minute appetizer, it’s time to introduce yourself at the entrance to Challenge 2, the black course. On the menu: a climbing wall as an aperitif, followed by “small complex games” as a main course, before a Tarzan jump and two big zip lines for dessert! Plenty you can say, but this course is available from 13 years old, self-confidence is important… Not so long because the adventure requires a lot of energy, strength and flexibility.
Crossing the pond by zip line, twice, is a real treat as well as a relief: it marks the end of the round after 40 minutes of effort. My big challenge has been met! Now your turn…
The big challenge, 40, rue de l’Etoile in Saint-Julien-des-Landes. Tree climbing from 2 years. Prices: from €12 to €24. Information and contact: tel. 02 51 98 79 02 or grand-defi.com.
