Ancelotti’s very humble and very funny speech before the match against Bayern in the Champions League

On the eve of the Champions League semi-final first leg between Bayern Munich and Real Madrid, Carlo Ancelotti, the Madrid coach, was keen not to go out of his way to explain his team’s results.

Real Madrid are on their way to a Spanish championship title and have to play a Champions League semi-final against Bayern Munich. An already successful season, in short. But Carlo Ancelotti, the Merengue coach, does not want to take credit for these results.

“The most important role is never the coach’s,” he stressed at a press conference on Monday, just before the first leg against Bayern. “For me, there are two types of trainers: those who do nothing and those who do a lot of damage. I try to be in the first category.”

“The fight belongs to the players”

For the Italian coach, his influence on the game after kick-off is still minimal. “The fight belongs to the players and you can give them a strategy to follow, convince them, but what counts is the quality and their commitment,” he assures. “A coach should focus on making sure the group understands the importance of teamwork.”

In this sense, Carlo Ancelotti assures that his team does not have a very recognizable philosophy, like Bayern Munich. “We are two teams that do not have a clear identity,” the Real coach explained. – We can play in different ways.
