If you are using WhatsApp on an Android smartphone, you may have recently encountered an issue: You cannot send videos stored on your smartphone to your contacts. Many users complained about this problem on social networks. After selecting a video file to send, they see a pop-up message: “This video cannot be sent. Select another video and try again.“.

The issue appears to primarily affect videos shot directly on an Android device or downloaded from sources such as Instagram. When I try to share the same video files on the WhatsApp sharing interface, an error message appears.

WhatsApp refuses to send your videos to Android

Interestingly, the bug does not seem to affect all types of video files equally. Videos received via WhatsApp from other contacts, such as those taken on an iPhone with a .mov extension, can still be forwarded or reposted without any problems.

According to 9To5Google tests on a Galaxy smartphone, the app actually refuses to send videos in its version 2.24.9.34. However, some user reports indicate that the bug may be more widespread and affecting other versions, such as the latest beta version of WhatsApp.

While the root cause is not yet clear, the bug does not seem to affect all Android devices. But since the affected devices include the globally popular Samsung Galaxy phones, it is likely that a large portion of WhatsApp’s billions of users will encounter this hurdle.

In the meantime, affected users may To work around this issue, downgrade to the previous version of WhatsApp – 2.24.8.85. This older version seems to allow video sharing without issue, at least for now. Of course, rolling back to an earlier version of an application poses a security risk if the vulnerabilities have been patched. Therefore, users considering this option should weigh the pros and cons until the official WhatsApp patch is released.
