OHL: Owen Beck, Saginaw Spirit win Game 3 against London Knights

Defeated at home by the London Knights in the first two games of the OHL playoff semifinals, the Saginaw Spirit responded with a convincing 6-2 victory in front of their fans on Monday night.

Canadian prospect Owen Beck contributed to the Spirit’s first success. The 20-year-old center scored his third goal of the series and equalized 2-2 early in the second period.

Beck entered the offensive zone and fired a shot that surprised goaltender Michael Simpson in the upper part of the net, on the glove side.

Beck has 11 points in 14 playoff games this spring.

Saginaw is already guaranteed to participate in the Memorial Cup at the end of May, as the host team of the competition that brings together the champions of the three CHL circuits.

Hunter Haight was the first star in Monday’s game for the Spirit. The latter, like Beck a second-round pick in 2022, scored twice and added an assist.

The showdown continues Wednesday night with the fourth duel, also at the Dow Event Center in Saginaw.

In the other last four games in Ontario, the Oshawa Generals took a serious shot at a spot in the finals by winning for the third time in as many outings against the North Bay Battalion.

Callum Ritchie, a first-round pick of the Colorado Avalanche, led the effort with three points (2-1).
