Tiger mosquito under “increased surveillance” at the Val de Loire Center

The hunt for tiger mosquitoes continues in six departments of the Center-Val-de-Loire region. The Regional Health Agency (RHA) announces the opening this Wednesday, May 1st, enhanced insect watching season. There’s a reason the tiger mosquito can transmit chikungunya and dengue fever through its bites. Year to date, 110 cases of imported dengue fever recorded in the region.

The tiger mosquito is recognizable by its small size (about 5 millimeters), but mainly due to his black and white stripes on his body and legs. Its prevalence is such that in October 2023 it was present in twice as many municipalities as three months ago.

ARS calls on everyone to take responsibility to stop the spread of the tiger mosquito. You are asked to avoid standing water in your home, whether in gutters, under flower pots or in waste. “These are all breeding grounds, that is, environments in which mosquito larvae develop very quickly. Removing these breeding sites means immediate peace of mind.”writes ARS in a press release.
