add strange sounds during calls

To brighten up your phone conversations, Google is developing audio emojis for its Phone app. You’ll be able to make sounds like clapping, laughing, or even farting! But who confirmed this curious idea?

But what was going on in Google’s head? The Internet giant has accustomed us to high-quality updates of its various services, new, increasingly practical functions, including in Google Phone, which are installed by default on Android smartphones. For example, last March we learned that the beta version of the app now directly displays WhatsApp calls in your communication history, making things much easier. But then the Mountain View company came up with a strange idea, to say the least. As 9to5google noted, it’s testing “audio emoji” in the app. The principle is the same as for emoticons used in SMS, namely a reaction to a person’s words, except this time it is a sound effect. And the result is more or less… elegant, let’s say.

Audio emoji: a new product that makes you doubt

In the Phone app settings, Google introduces this new feature as follows: “Express your emotions and mood with sounds like clapping, laughter, sad paperclip and more with emoji while you’re on the phone.” Specifically, when you tap one of these emojis during a phone call, the app displays a fun animation accompanied by a sound effect. Currently six emoji are supported; applause, laughter, parties, crying, drums and all that. Yes, you read that right. The latter should produce a gentle sound of flatulence. Ideal for continuing the discussion…

Luckily, it’s not possible to spam your conversation partner with these audio emojis because Google sets a delay between two uses. You can access it by pressing the button of the same name, located just above the call menu. Of course, you can disable this option in the application settings.

At the moment, only a few Google Pixel owners have access to this feature, which is still in beta development – the teams still have time to roll back. This was met with great disbelief. For our part, it is difficult for us to imagine a situation in which we would like to use audio emoticons. Especially the poop emoji. It’s funny once, maybe twice, but that’s the maximum!
