Cesson fails with one breath against PAUC

A burst of pride. This is above all what was expected this Thursday evening, by Cessonnais coach Sébastien Leriche, and the audience at the Glaz Arena, on the occasion of the 27th day of the Starligue. In addition to the last two losses in the championship – quite logically against the Europeans from Paris (24-27) and Montpellier (37-29) – the Irréducibles were left with three losses in a row against PAUC. Bucco-Rhodaniens, on the other hand, presented themselves with full confidence, due to three last meetings won by a very small unit.

It was winger Junior Tuzolana who dislocated his shoulder and unlocked the counterattack for Cesson-Rennes in the 2nd.e minute. After 10 minutes of play, the two teams went blow for blow and stayed close to the goal (6-7). Aix goalkeeper Wesley Pardin could stand out with two big saves at Molinie, after the first throw from 7 meters of the game given to Cessonnais. Led by Matteo Briffe and much success with the posts, Cesson broke and took a four-length lead, via a penalty converted by Axel Oppedisano (14-10, 26th). The 4,000 Breton supporters were vocal, but not enough to undermine the morale of the Aix troops, who ended up only conceding a one-goal lead at half-time (17-16).

Aix regains victory by pacifier

In the second half, Aix came back with completely different intentions. Denis Serdarevic, Aix’s other goalkeeper, confirmed the trend by making three saves in quick succession ahead of Ludwig Appolinaire, then Ian Tarrafeta put PAUC ahead (18-19, 36th). The latter then took the break and we thought Cesson was on the verge of collapse, but the very young Michal Baran – who didn’t even have his name on the shirt – rebelled for Cesson in the 44th (21-23). The young player became a playmaker and stood out in the 46th, 48th, 51st (25-25).

Anything could happen then, but Aix decided to repeat the experience of the last meetings. In a hard-fought game, it was finally Jordan Camarero who broke in the 58th minute and ended by giving up Cesson’s hopes (28-30). Even Romain Briffe’s goal in the last minute and the many timeouts did not allow the trend to reverse. Cesson failed by a hair. Aix still won on the wire.

CESSON-RENNES – AIX: 29-30 (17-16).
