More than forty bearers from Saint-Etienne will take turns carrying the Olympic flame on Saturday, June 22, 2024, as it passes through Saint-Étienne. This eight kilometer route will start from the Planetarium and end at the Geoffroy-Guichard stadium.
Here are the portraits of four of themchosen by the city of Saint-Étienne.
- Damani Dembele, breakdance champion: the 2015 world junior champion was unable to participate in qualifications for the Games due to a serious injury. For him, it is “a pride and an honor to be able to participate in this unique event”.
- Justine Montagne, student: currently in her second year at the École des Mines de Saint-Étienne, she will proudly wear his school colors. “I have loved the Olympic Games since I was a child! They are not just a sporting competition, but an event that brings the whole world together and carries a message of peace, she says.
- Zed Yun Pavarotti, artist: he has been a rapper, singer, writer, composer, performer and sportsman since childhood. For him, who has always followed the Olympic Games, “carrying the flame of Saint-Étienne, my hometown, is a very strong symbol. I wouldn’t do it anywhere else. »
- Paula Dos Santos, sportswoman: suffers from Charcot’s disease, she has participated for several years, in a joëlette (one-wheel off-road wheelchair), in a number of races and has even just completed the Paris Marathon. “It is an honor for me, who is disabled, to be able to carry the Olympic flame for Saint-Étienne and for all the sick. I never imagined this, she says.
