And another qualifying match for the men’s football tournament during the Paris Olympics. By beating Indonesia 2-1, Iraq is the 15th and penultimate country to win its ticket to the French stadiums to host the competition. A success that has an impact… on the future of the Blues.

In fact, the last sesame will be played on May 9 in Clairefontaine (Yvelines) in a playoff between Indonesia and Guinea. And the winner will take place in the Games’ Group A alongside the players of the USA, New Zealand and Thierry Henry.

The French already know the location and date of their matches during the group stage. On July 24, they meet the Americans at the Vélodrome stadium in Marseille, at 21:00.

Their second match at the Olympics will take place on July 27, against Guinea or Indonesia in Nice, still at 9pm. Finally, Thierry Henry and his team will return to Marseille on July 30 (7pm) to challenge the New Zealanders.

If they finish in the top two of their group and therefore qualify for the quarter-finals, the Blues will face a bigger challenge: it will be one of the top two in Group B which consists of Argentina, Morocco, Ukraine and therefore, Iraq which qualified this Thursday.

Japan and Uzbekistan also qualified on Monday.
