Tiger Woods will play the United States Open

Former World No. 1 golfer Tiger Woods will try his luck at the next United States Open, which will take place from June 13 to 16 at the Pinehurst No. 2 course in North Carolina.

The 48-year-old American will compete in the event for the first time since 2020, when he accepted a special exemption from the country’s national golf association, the USGA. Woods was plagued by several physical problems in recent years, seeing his five-year ban expire, as his last major tournament victory dates back to 2019.

“The US Open, our national championship, is a very special event for our sport and one that has defined my career. I am honored to have this privilege and I could not be more enthusiastic about this opportunity to compete, especially at Pinehurst , an important place for golf, he said in a press release.

The 789th player in the world has won the tournament three times, in 2000, 2002 and 2008. This year he experienced problems when playing. At the Masters tournament held in April, final rounds of 82 and 77 tied him for 60th. In February, a virus forced him to leave the Genesis Invitational before the start of the second round. He plans to participate in the PGA Championship from May 16 to 19.
