The French team was scared this Saturday, May 4, in the Olympic Qualifying Tournament (TQO). The Blues started the second day of this TQO organized in Japan with a defeat against Mongolia (17-21). But Lahaou Konaté’s partners got the better of the Japanese to secure a semi-final place (21-10).
Against Japan, who had won their first two games, the Blues got the game off to a thunderous start with several award-winning shots from Jules Rambaut, 2 points in 3×3 basketball. Obliged to win by scoring at least 17 points to go to the semi-finals and with at least 5 points ahead of Japan to finish first in Pool B, the Blues fulfilled their mission perfectly.
Japan eliminated
A big reaction after the disappointment against Mongolia. “ We changed our mentality. Yesterday we had an easy win, but we were a bit lazy (against Egypt). So we lost to Mongolia and we needed to come back with something different. Qualification for the Olympics? It means a lot to us. We are getting ready for it, we have two games left. All that matters is winning both games.”indicated Jules Rambault.
This Sunday 5 May (at 11.15), France will face Lithuania for a place in the final. On the other side, Mongolia will challenge the Netherlands. Semi-finals played without Japan who, despite their two successes in three matches, failed to finish third. As a reminder, only the winner of this TQO will enter their ticket to the Paris 2024 Olympics.
