Another injury forces the Beterbiev fight to be postponed

Boxing fans will have to be patient as the highly anticipated fight between Artur Beterbiev and Dmitry Bivol has been postponed due to an injury sustained by the adopted Quebecer.

This meeting between two of the best light heavyweights on the planet was set to take place on the 1steh June in Saudi Arabia. The two undefeated pugilists put a lot on the table, with Beterbiev (20-0-0, 20 KOs) having to defend the WBC, WBO and IBF world belts in the category.

In a statement, promoter Top Rank said Beterbiev suffered a torn meniscus in his knee in training. This is the third time in as many matches that the 39-year-old athlete has suffered an injury which forced the postponement of the event.

On January 13, he beat Britain’s Callum Smith at the Videotron Center, more than five months after suffering a jawbone infection that required surgery, a few weeks before the original fight date.

Bivol (22-0-0, 11 KOs) holds the only title currently eluding Beterbiev, the WBA title. His last fight, a decision victory over Lyndon Arthur in Saudi Arabia, was on December 23.
