Amateur rugby – Federal 3: final clap for the Figeac A team, Espoirs in the last 16

the necessary
Beaten by eight points by Montluçon this Sunday at home, the GSF A team (winners by four points in the first half) saw their season end well in the 32nd final.

Facing Ovale Club Montluçon, Figeac failed to validate his ticket to the last 16 on Sunday on his turf at the Marcel Costes Stadium. The author of a very good start, Figeacois faltered in his rugby midway through the game. A blessing for the guests who caught up and took advantage of the marking. The late awakening of the “Red and Black” will not be able to turn the tide of the game, their offensives fail close to the goal due to errors or approaches. The disappointment was great in the Lot camp! Back to this dark day.

“We are off to a very good start,” emphasizes co-president Marc Thouron. Then, unfortunately, we went through a major recession. At that point we started making some small mistakes, forward movements, missed touches, we got off to a good start but the machine was stuck! There is no particular point to explain our defeat, it is an accumulation of small things that no longer worked. We believed it until the end, but again, it didn’t work. Our opponents played well, they broke the rhythm, especially in the 2nd half when we got back into the game. »

The adventure continues for Figeac’s hopes

“It’s true that we were contracted,” says scrum-half Thomas Fernandez, “maybe they were more present in the engagement. But ideally we would have gone into the game. We scored quickly but from the 20th minute onwards the tougher.

They got hold of the ball which we couldn’t keep. We were unable to return to their home. They countered us and played forward. Without the ball and on the back foot it was difficult for us! In the end we believed in it, we had to score, but it didn’t work out, it’s a shame! »

“Given the first leg we won, we expected an upset from them,” explains coach Fabrice Landes. Despite a very good start from our side, we were then deprived of the ball, add to that many small mistakes which cost us dearly. We give them confidence. They come back in the fight. The start of the 2nd half is disastrous. In the end we had the strength to take the win, but they defended well and too many small mistakes hindered our actions. Well done by Montluçon, they came to get him, but it’s very frustrating. Our players deserved to play in the round of 16, I’m disappointed for them. »

If the season ends honorably for the pennant team, the adventure continues for the hopes of Figeac who, after beating Guéret in the 32 final, will face the hopes of Tournon/Rhône – Tain l’Ermitage next Sunday on the field of Clermont, the plain of the Puy de Dôme .
