Besides PSG and OM, which French can still win a European Cup this season?

Apart from PSG and Olympique de Marseille, engaged in C1 and C3 respectively, France can still count on many French players to represent it on the European stage.

Among the four clubs still competing in the Champions League, several French players can dream of winning the title. Except atBorussia Dortmund, the only club without the tricolor, Real Madrid, Bayern Munich and PSG have at least one Frenchman in their squad. In the Europa League and Europa Conference League, other Frenchmen also have the opportunity to lift a cup. Here they are.

Camavinga, Tel, Mendy… Can they win the Champions League?

In addition to Kylian Mbappé, an essential football star, PSG counts in its squad Frenchman Warren Zaire-Emery, Ousmane Dembélé, Bradley Barcola, Randal Kolo Muani and Nordi Mukiele, who only played a few minutes in the Champions League this season. Just like Lucas Hernandez, who was injured in the first period and is already out for the end of the season. The most successful club in C1, Real Madrid, this season relies on a number of French talents. When he joined the club in 2019, left-back Ferland Mendy has already won the Champions League with the Merengues in 2022, just like Eduardo Camavinga, who came to Spain in 2021. Aurélien Tchouaméni, from Madrid for two seasons, completes the French trio at Real Madrid. For Bayern Munich, winger Kingsley Coman, injured and uncertain for Euro 2024, also won the Champions League in the summer of 2020. Against PSG, his training club, the French international scored the only goal of the meeting. The German club can also count on French Dayot Upamecano and Mathys Tel.

Michel Adopo, a Frenchman against OM in the Europa League?

Europa League semi-finalists, Olympique de Marseille logically have many Frenchmen in their squad, including Jonathan Clauss and Jordan Veretout, who are internationals. Which is no longer the case for Geoffrey Kondogbia, former Blues player, who now plays for the Central African Republic. Samuel Gigot, Quentin Merlin, Valentin Rongier complete the French squad at the Marseille club. But the striker, born in Béziers, decided to represent Morocco. The German club’s opponent in the C3 semi-final, AS Roma, is in the same situation. Trained in France and international Espoirs, Evan Ndicka now also represents Morocco, while Houssem Aouar, who has a selection with the Blues, wears the colors of Algeria.

The C4 is the only European competition without a French club qualifying in the semi-finals. But among the clubs still in the running, several Frenchmen can hope to win the title. Aston Villa, heavily beaten at home in the first half by Olympiakos (2-4), has many Frenchmen in the squad… And they are all international: Lucas Digne, Clément Lenglet, Moussa Diaby and Boubacar Kamara, injured since February. The Greek club, on the other hand, has no French players in its squad.

In the other semi-final, two Frenchmen wear Fiorentina’s colours: Jonathan Ikoné, who arrived at the Italian club at the start of 2022, and former Marseille player Maxime Lopez. The Viola’s opponents, Club Brugge, have no French nationals in their squad.
