Microsoft announces closure of several studios, including developer Redfall

After months of uncertainty, Microsoft has just announced a new wave of closures that will mainly affect Bethesda studios.

For several Microsoft studios, and Bethesda in particular, it’s all over. In a message sent to his teams and seen by IGN, Matt Booty, head of Xbox studios, said the need to “prioritize games and resources.”

There will be no more new content in Redfall

Among the interested studios – and there are many of them – is Arkane Austin, to whom we are indebted Production but also Redfalla man-made disaster that began in the spring of 2023 in a state that is difficult to justify, to the point that Phil Spencer apologized for it, blaming it on the desire not to interfere with the development of the game in order to leave as much freedom as possible to the developers.

Useful details: Redfall will remain available and can be played both solo and in cooperation, but it will no longer receive updates, in particular the DLC that was supposed to bring new heroes. On this side, Microsoft promises a “good deal” for those who actually put their hand in their pocket to treat themselves to content that will therefore never appear.

Tango Gameworks, founded by the creator of the saga resident Evil (who has since left the studio) to whom we owe Evil inside and a musical surprise Hi-Fi Rushalso suffered from these closures, as did Alpha Dog Studios, which until now specialized in mobile games.

Finally, Roundhouse Games will be merged with ZeniMax Online Studios, which is responsible for The Elder Scrolls Online with the goal of “making this MMO evolve even more.”

The closure comes months after several hundred layoffs announced in January 2024.
