See what the new Pixel 8a can do with Google’s Gemini AI

Google is bringing its generative AI to a wider audience with the debut of its new Pixel 8a smartphone. The phone features many of the generative AI features found on the more expensive Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 devices, including photo and video editing capabilities.

Here are the confirmed prices for the products in Canada: $679 CAD for the 128GB version and $759 CAD for the 256GB version.

Google says the 6.1-inch Pixel 8a will have access to Gemini’s generative AI chatbot, as well as generative AI-powered features like Best take AND Circle to search. The company also says that in a future update, users will eventually have access to Gemini Nano, a smaller version of the larger Gemini language model that runs directly on the Pixel 8a.

The standard version of Gemini requires an Internet connection to process your requests on Google’s cloud servers, but Gemini Nano runs directly on your device, allowing it to perform some generative AI tasks without access to the Internet.

Pixel 8a features Google’s latest Tensor G3 chip, 128GB of internal storage expandable up to 256GB, and a new 120Hz display for smoother gaming and scrolling. There is also a 64-megapixel wide-angle camera with Super Res Zoom, simulating a telephoto lens, and a 13-megapixel ultra-wide-angle camera.

Earlier in October, Google introduced a range of generative AI features from the Pixel to 8a, as well as the Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro. With their help, Google wants to turn its generative AI offerings into core features that Google hopes will boost sales of its devices.
