TikTok is filing a lawsuit against the United States to challenge its ban

“For the first time in history, Congress passed a law that permanently bans a single speech platform nationwide and prohibits every American from participating in a single online community of more than a billion people around the world,” they state lawyers companies in a complaint filed before a federal court in Washington.

According to the law, the platform has 270 days to find new non-Chinese investors or it will be banned UNITED STATES. The White House can grant an additional 90 days. The legal battle could escalate Supreme Court.

In 2020, TikTok managed to block a similar decree from the former president Donald Trump. She then filed an appeal and the judge temporarily suspended the decision, judging that the reasons for the ban were exaggerated and that freedom of expression was threatened.

The new law aims to circumvent the difficulties it faced earlier. Experts say the Supreme Court could be sensitive to the arguments national security made by elected officials, without certainty.
