Giro 2024. No Stelvio, legendary pass of the Tour of Italy during the 16th stage?

The Giro could lose its most legendary pass in this 2024 edition RAI , the Stelvio could be scratched from the route for the 16th stage of the Tour of Italy, on May 21, due to the amounts of snow still present on the sides of the road leading to the culmination of the Italian Grand Tour. The danger of avalanches is high due to the high temperatures.

There RAI clarifies that it is now up to the Giro organizers to decide whether to change the route of the 16th stage, while the Italian Road Office and the Provincial Avalanche Office have given a negative opinion on maintaining the climb to the Stelvio (20.2 km at 7.2 %) .

A devalued 16th stage?

The 16th stage of the Tour of Italy should be one of the most difficult on the Italian route, with the Stelvio as an aperitif before the last 35 kilometers marked by two climbs: Passo Pinei (23.4 km at 4.7%), then Monte Pana and the last two terminals at almost 12% on average.
