Top 14 – New leader in Toulouse, Perpignan still delights… Our predictions for the 23rd

The 23rd day of the Top 14 begins this Saturday at 3 p.m. With four games to go, all points are up for grabs at all levels. Stade Toulousein could become the new leader of the championship, while Perpignan will have enough to collect maximum points against Clermont.

Perpignan – Clermont

This is the best form at the moment. Perpignan, two points behind 6th, is riding an incredible run of five consecutive wins and advance against Clermont hoping to collect as many points as possible to qualify for the final stage. For his part, Clermont gave themselves some fresh air by beating the Parisian leader but traveling badly this year. If Jaunards want to make the top 8, it will take a very big blow in Perpignan.

Our prediction: improved win for Perpignan

Castres – Montpellier

Castres is left with just one win in the last six games and has been pushed out of the top 6. Castres even went last to Perpignan. The welcome to Montpellier, as ill as he is, should allow Mathieu Babillot’s team-mates to move on to finish the season well. MHR, on the other hand, have not won in four games and are seriously suffering the blow. Patrice Collazo’s players are in great danger and this game already looks like one of the last chances.

Our prediction: victory for Castres

Racing 92 – Bayonne

At the start of the season, Bayonne achieved a magnificent performance by winning against Racing thanks to a try from Baget. Five months later, the inhabitants of Ile-de-France, number four, will have revenge to secure their place in the top 6. Faced with Bayonnais who are experiencing a difficult period after the defeat at home to Bordeaux-Bègles, the time is ripe to make full of points.

Our prediction: improved victory for Racing 92

Toulon – Lyon

Toulon must win against Lyon to cement their place in the top 6. Baptiste Serin and his team must capitalize on Lyon’s reception to raise their heads in terms of accounting. With two weeks of rest and the usual starters expected to return to match form, there will be plenty to do in the Mayol side. LOU has a significant eight-point lead over MHR, 13th, and can arrive at port unhindered.

Our prediction: improved win for Toulon

Pau – Oyonnax

After its excellent start to the season, Section Paloise is experiencing a more difficult finish to the championship. In front of Oyonnax, last in the ranking, Sébastien Piqueronie’s men can please their supporters and put up a full fight to still believe in qualification. Oyonnax, on the other hand, has nothing left to play for and will try to pick up another win after the one against Castres on the 22nd.

Our prediction: improved win for Pau

UBB – La Rochelle

Decisive match in the battle for qualification. Union Bordeaux-Bègles (3rd), strong on their historic win at Jean-Dauger’s court, host La Rochelle (5th). With a win, Maxime Lucu’s teammates can take a big step towards qualification. Maritimes are under pressure from Toulon and Perpignan. In the event of a loss, Grégory Alldritt and his team could be pushed out of the top 6.

Our prediction: UBB win

Toulouse – Stade Français

All is well in the pink city. Rouge et Noir are qualified for the Champions Cup final and have a big lead over UBB, third in the top 14. Even better, they can take the lead in the championship this Sunday by beating Stade Français. Toulouse are yet to lose at home this season and intend to maintain their unbeaten stronghold. For his part, the Parisian leader is also in front and can come unhindered to Ernest-Wallon. However, he knows he will need a big performance to overcome the reigning French champions.

Our prediction: win for Toulouse
