Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 6 and Fold 6 may be disappointing when charging

The Galaxy Z Fold 6 and Z Flip 6 should bring their share of improvements. Unfortunately, charging speed won’t be one of them.

Charging speed is an important criterion for some users, especially on high-end models. Samsung doesn’t seem to be of that opinion at the moment, if the latest information about the company’s upcoming foldable smartphones is to be believed.

Galaxy Z Flip 6 and Z Fold 6 will be more of a tortoise than a hare

There is no point in running, we need to start on time. This is a philosophy adopted by some manufacturers such as Apple and Samsung, who still refuse to offer very fast charging speeds like some Chinese competitors can do. But between 25W and 240W charging, there is a balance between battery size and charging speed.

However, Samsung has put in the effort to create its latest high-end smartphone. In fact, the Galaxy S24 Ultra charges in 1 hour and 9 minutes thanks to its 45W charger. We might reasonably expect the same charging speeds on the Z Fold 6 and Z Flip 6, but it doesn’t look like that’s the case. Indeed, both phones have passed China’s 3C certification with model numbers “SM-F9560” and “SM-F7410”, which confirms 25W wired charging. Wireless charging also wouldn’t move one iota, namely 25W.

If the Galaxy Z Fold 6 uses the same 4400 mAh battery as the Z Fold 5, then the transition time from 0 to 100% will be approximately 1 hour 10 minutes. This is much longer than the OnePlus Open, which can charge a 4,805mAh battery in around 45 minutes thanks to 67W fast charging compatibility.

The charging speed of the Z Fold and Z Flip is all the more problematic because these two smartphones are not among the most durable on the market. We also expect efforts from Samsung in this regard for the next generation of foldable devices, which should be introduced in the summer of 2024.
