Surprisingly, iPhone 12s are eligible for Qi2 fast charging

The latest iOS update brings a new, faster Qi2 wireless charging feature to the iPhone 12 lineup. The iPhone 13 and 14 were eligible last December.

Qi2, which is the logical successor to the Qi standard, doubles the maximum wireless charging speed from 7.5W to 15W. This technology is also more energy efficient, and for good reason: the magnet system allows the smartphone and the charging roller to be perfectly aligned. This specification is taken from MagSafe, a proprietary technology that served as the model for Qi2.

iPhone 12 is not crappy

If accessory makers start expanding their catalogs with Qi2-compatible chargers, smartphone makers should do so too. Apple, the main promoter of Qi2, is obviously one of them. The iPhone 15 and 15 Pro are compatible with the new standard, and since December last year the same has been true of the iPhone 13 and 14, which became eligible via iOS 17.2.

The iPhone 12, the first model to integrate MagSafe, is unfortunately left behind. This is no longer the case thanks to iOS 17.4. : McMir was able to test Qi2 support on the iPhone 12. The iPhone 12 Pro Max battery reached 30% in 33 minutes and 50% in 64 minutes with the Anker Qi2 charger, compared to 38 minutes (30%) and 70 minutes (50%). ) with Apple MagSafe Charger. This means that on this iPhone, Qi2 is even slightly faster than MagSafe, although their power is 15W.

If Apple hasn’t confirmed the good news, Belkin – an accessory maker very close to the Apple firm – is announcing that one of its Qi2 chargers is compatible with the iPhone 12.
