The KinoCaen festival was finally canceled in 2024, due to there being no place to host it

See my news

An unmissable event in Caen Cultural Newsthe KinoCaen (Calvados) festival will eventually not take place in 2024. There are no longer stables in the Lorge area to accommodate the festival’s headquarters, organizers have announced. Unexpected cancellation This is Wednesday, March 27, 2024. Explanations.

“This situation does not deserve this event.”

At the beginning of February 2024, KinoCaen announced its return for the thirteenth edition scheduled to take place from 16 to 24 May 2024. At that time, the organizers of the festival dedicated to short film making did not hide their satisfaction with the idea of investing in a new “home” in the stables of the Lorge area. After two months, the cold shower comes:

We are unable to maintain the thirteenth edition of our festival, due to the creative space that, in the end, and against all expectations, will not be available to welcome us.

Benjamin Hubert, General Coordinator of KinoCaen

He’s been moving around a lot since the event was created in 2012Clearly, the Quinoists set out to find another base. In vain… “This situation is not appropriate for an event that was to be held for the thirteenth year in a row. An event that grew, transformed, adapted, gathered more and more regional structures around it and gave everyone the opportunity to enter the world of cinema and audiovisual media. »

See you in 2025, “more motivated than ever”

Every year, KinoCaen brings together 150 participants and 75 volunteers, producing more than 100 films in one week. Enthusiastic people who have, over the years, invested in La Fermeture Éclair, the abandoned buildings of the Pathé cinema in the city centre, the former Dunois College and even Bazarnaom.

The festival cannot exist without a place that accommodates photography equipment, editing stations, a sound and visual effects studio, a makeup and hair salon, a fashion store, etc. A true mini-cell, entirely dedicated to the seventh art:

There are teams to translate films, teams to show the collections, teams to cook food for all those who feed on all this, and so on.

Benjamin Hubert, General Coordinator of KinoCaen

This cancellation also concerns the public performances scheduled in Cargö on May 20 and 23. Organizers promise to return in 2025, “with more motivation than ever before.”
