Member states of the World Health Organization (WHO) agreed on Thursday in Geneva to continue negotiations from April 29 to May 10 with the aim of finalizing a global agreement on pandemics.
The decision came after two weeks of discussions by member countries on ways to help countries better prepare for future pandemics, the UN health agency said in a statement.

” Our member states are fully aware of the importance of the Pandemic Agreement in protecting future generations from the suffering we suffered during the COVID-19 pandemic“, underlined WHO Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, quoted in the press release.
In this regard, he praised the clear commitment of the stakeholders to find a common language that could finalize the historic agreement in time to be submitted to the 77th World Health Assembly scheduled for May 27.
The World Health Assembly, at an extraordinary session in December 2021, decided to establish a mechanism for drafting and negotiating a convention, agreement or other WHO international instrument on prevention, preparedness and intervention in the event of a pandemic, the same source reminds.
