Champions League. France almost said goodbye to an extra place next season

France will undoubtedly have to settle for a maximum of four places in the next edition of the Champions League. Long in the fight with the Netherlands to maintain its 5th place in the UEFA coefficient (with the aim of keeping 3 places in groups plus a place in the 3rd preliminary round of C1 in 2025-2026), Ligue 1 has distanced itself from the Batavian championship and could even dream of five representatives in the Champions League next year.

Italy is guaranteed five clubs in the Champions League next season

In fact, with the reform of the European Cup formats from the 2024-2025 financial year, two extra tickets in C1 are given to the top two championships of the last season.

But the French championship has almost no hope of grabbing this final ticket at the end of the season. Despite the qualifications of PSG in C1 and OM in C3, France (16,083 points) is well behind Italy (19,428 points) and Germany (17,928 points), who have the two best records for the current season. Ligue 1 should therefore settle for three qualifying places for the group stage and a fourth place for the 3rd preliminary round.

Italy, for its part, has secured the 5th in Serie A to play in the Champions League next year after the qualification of AS Roma, in C3, and Fiorentina, in C4.
