Chicoutimi Hospital unveils new cancer treatment device

It will not be the last: the institution should install a second one in the fall of 2024, with commissioning in the spring, the Ministry of Health indicated during the opening.

The first device was first used on a patient in March last year at the Radiation Oncology Department of Chicoutimi Hospital. Its opening marks the first stage of a project to improve the department’s efficiency through new processing technologies. Ultimately, CIUSSS du Saguenay-Lac-Saint-Jean aims to replace the three devices and expand the service by adding new devices to the screened space.

“The three new devices, when put into service, will contribute to maintaining the quality of care offered, tailored to the needs of each patient,” commented Health Minister Christian Dubé in a press release.

“The release of this first device is only the first step in this major initiative to modernize the radiation oncology services at our institution,” added André Laforest, Minister of Municipal Affairs and CAQ Member of Parliament for Chicoutimi.

Through this project, which began in 2022, Quebec hopes to bring the latest technology to the people of Saguenay-Lac-Saint-Jean, as well as Côte-Nord and Nord-du-Québec.
