Nice returned to victory at home after defeating a weak Lorient (3-0), Friday at the opening of the 30th day, thus consolidating their fifth place, while waiting to play their late game on Wednesday in Marseille.
Nice had not won at the Allianz Riviera since January 27, against Metz (1-0). With three goals scored by Morgan Sanson (22nd), Jérémie Boga (53rd) and Evann Guessand (89th), the Azuréens found a smile and ambition, as well as security. The ones they had shown throughout the first part of the season.
But in the meantime, they experienced a journey through the winter wilderness in four home games. These three defeats and a draw cost the Aiglons dearly, now far from the podium and direct qualification for the next Champions League.
Also for captain Dante and his team, this victory against a team from Lorient that is now relegated sounds like real redemption.
With 47 points, the Aiglons have therefore consolidated a fifth place that Lens (6th, 43 points) will not be able to steal, even if there should be a victory on Saturday against Clermont. But now they travel to Marseille next Wednesday to play their postponed match on the 29th, with the idea of further establishing possible European qualification.
For Lorient, however, the next few weeks will be complicated. Second to last in L1 at the end of the match (26 points and -20 goal difference), they take on Paris on Wednesday in the extreme match.
Guess and better than Moffi
Without competition since April 8 and a trip to Reims (0-0) for the 28th day, Francesco Farioli’s men showed very quickly that they were hungry.
