Moroccan Retail Tech Builder celebrates the support of 100 startups

At the initiative of the Ministry of Industry and Trade, in collaboration with the Mohammed VI Polytechnic University and the OCP Foundation, the MRTB has positioned itself as the first national platform dedicated to supporting startups active in the Retail Tech sector and providing project leaders with the necessary support to develop their solutions. On this occasion, Mr. Mezzour highlighted the great success of the program launched in 2021, as well as the strong mobilization of all stakeholders in the commercial ecosystem in Morocco, noting that the Retail Tech sector represents a huge area in which Morocco strives development thanks to 100% Moroccan solutions.

“This achievement marks the beginning of a deep transformation of Moroccan trade, in line with the strategic visions of modernization and digitalization of the sector,” the minister affirmed. Starters Achraf Jemali and Mohamed-Amine Hejji, beneficiaries of MRTB support, in turn testified to the importance of this platform in the development of their respective projects.

Achraf Jemali, co-founder of a startup active in the transport sector in Morocco, underlined the crucial role of the MRTB in making his project viable, thanks to personal support and strategic advice. He particularly highlighted the assistance provided in identifying the market, targeting customers and developing a marketing strategy and business plan. As for Mohamed-Amine Hejji, general manager of a startup specializing in artificial intelligence applied to surveillance cameras, he stressed the importance of the MRTB’s support in the implementation of surveillance technology in commerce. He says integrating AI into existing surveillance cameras has helped improve sales to customers, refine in-store marketing and make catchment areas more attractive.

This event was also an opportunity to continue efforts aimed at accelerating the trading sector and strengthening the capabilities of traders. In this context, the Ministry of Industry and Trade has signed two partnership agreements.

The first with M2T and the BCP group, with the aim of developing the digitalization of the trading sector and the financial inclusion of traders. It focuses on integrating merchants into the digital economy, by facilitating their access to related revenue-generating services and innovative and customized payment solutions.

The second agreement signed by Aleph, official representative of Google Ads in Morocco, with the Mediam group aims to boost e-commerce and the increase in digital skills of local sellers.

This event is intended as a showcase of the achievements made by the startups supported over the past three years, and as an opportunity for partner institutions to proudly honor the success of a partnership. Launched in 2021, the Moroccan Retail Tech Builder initially set itself the mission of supporting around a hundred startups that provide innovative solutions for the digitalization and modernization of commerce, a fundamental sector of the Moroccan economy.

Today, the realization of this first important step opens the way to new perspectives to further promote the autonomy and competitiveness of the retail sector through the revitalization of the Moroccan Retail Tech ecosystem and the strengthening of cooperation between the different partners.

The event is part of a global approach aimed at supporting young entrepreneurs by connecting with key players in the Moroccan retail technology ecosystem and the emergence of fruitful collaborations between companies and supported startups.

As part of a continued dynamic of openness and cooperation with the various stakeholders, the MRTB joins forces with new partners, sponsors of the event, with the common desire to act on various fronts in particular, financial support for inclusion, support for young entrepreneurs, and the implementation of the developed solutions.

These include Plug and Play, a global innovation platform, a startup accelerator, M2T, a payment institution of the BCP group, Al Barid Bank, SA banking subsidiary of the Barid Al-Maghrib Group, Visa, one of the world leaders in electronic payments and Glovo, one of the technological leaders in multi-category delivery in Morocco.
