Two foods increase cancer risk, nutritionist says

According to an American nutritionist, two foods especially increase the risk of cancer.

“I get questions every day about what increases my risk of cancer,” nutritionist Nicole Andrews said in a video posted to the social media platform TikTok, which has been viewed nearly 20,000 times in a day.

“Processed meat and alcohol are the only two foods that increase your risk of cancer,” she added.

Energy drinks, non-organic foods, food colors, artificial sweeteners, eggs, dairy products and gluten do not increase the risk of cancer.

“This is based on decades of research from around the world,” Nicole Andrews said.

The number of new cancer cases in the province rose from 35,835 new diagnoses in 1999 to 60,113 in 2019, according to Quebec’s Ministry of Health and Social Services.
