Libya separates itself from Algeria and praises the “active” role of Morocco

The Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Moroccans living abroad, Nasser Bourita, received on Tuesday in Rabat the envoy of the President of the Libyan Presidential Council, Sami El Menfi, who conveyed a written message from the President of the Libyan President of the Libyan Presidential Council, Mr. Mohamed Younes El Menfi.

In a press statement after this meeting, Ambassador Aboubaker Ibrahim Ataweel, chargé d’affaires at the Libyan embassy in Morocco, pointed out that this visit confirms the excellence of the brotherly relations that connect Libya and Morocco. In this regard, he expressed his country’s gratitude to Morocco for its continuous and constant support, under the leadership of the Sovereign, to the Libyan issue, which is reflected in the multiple agreements concluded, especially in the agreements of Skhirat, Bouznika and Tangier.

The Kingdom of Morocco actively contributed to the resolution of the Libyan crisis and provided all its support for the conclusion of a series of agreements, he recalled, noting that the Skhirat Agreement of 2015 remains the cornerstone and reference for the resolution of the Libyan issue.

This visit is also part of efforts aimed at strengthening the Arab Maghreb Union (AMU) to respond to the aspirations of the people of the region for greater stability and prosperity, the Libyan ambassador said, highlighting Morocco’s previously active role in favor of Maghreb Integration.

A source close to the Libyan Presidential Council recently completely rejected any attempt to create an alternative framework to replace the AMU, stressing the urgent need to strengthen this regional group whose foundations were laid by five countries of the region in 1989 in Marrakesh.
