Ait Taleb presents an action plan for the prevention of non-communicable diseases – Today Morocco

85% of deaths are associated with these diseases.

Minister of Health and Social Protection Khaled Ait Taleb presented the situation of non-communicable diseases in Morocco and the multi-sectoral action plan for the prevention and surveillance of non-communicable diseases for 2023-2024 in Rabat on Tuesday. The national epidemiological situation related to noncommunicable diseases and their risk factors remains alarming, in particular cardiovascular diseases, cancer, diabetes and chronic respiratory diseases. It is estimated that 85% of deaths are caused by these diseases, and the premature mortality rate among the population aged 30 to 70 years is 24%.

Faced with this reality, the National Multisectoral Strategy for the Prevention and Control of Noncommunicable Diseases 2019–2029, developed and implemented through a participatory and proactive approach, provides an important model for integrating health issues into all policies. Intervention efforts in this area were strengthened by the signing of the National Charter for the Prevention and Control of Non-Communicable Diseases by 17 strategic partners, including 11 government sectors, two government agencies and four non-governmental organizations.

The signatories to this Charter have expressed their commitment to implementing measures and ensuring appropriate conditions for health and population in order to prevent and control non-communicable diseases and reduce associated risk factors, including diet, unhealthy lifestyles, sedentary lifestyles, tobacco smoking and alcohol.
