Nancy has pieces in her museums that are often of inestimable value, but there we are talking in a more corrupt way about the artist whose work has sold the most in 2023: it is Yayoi Kusama, the Japanese artist who is pursued by visitors to the Nancy Museum. Fine Arts knows this well. One of his works is deposited there, a cube that never ceases to amaze him.
Once inside, through the game of lined mirrors, as well as a thin layer of water, the multi-colored lights hanging from the ceiling are reflected endlessly, as are the visitors.
One insurance company produced the top 100 best-selling artists of 2023, based on auction sales rather than gallery sales: Yayoi Kusama came out on top with $80.9 million (about €75.9 million). This represents the amount of works sold and not what the artist earned, of course.
But surely the cube from the Museum of Fine Arts alone represents a good sum, without the risk of theft, given its weight and size.
