Google Maps returns to Google search results

The search engine has just resurrected its mapping app’s shortcut in search results. This disappeared among European users after DMA was implemented.

You, too, have been mourning the disappearance of labels since the beginning of March. Google Maps in Google search results? Rejoice, because Google appears to have changed course. Within hours, the Mountain View firm apparently reactivated the “Maps” button displayed at the top of its search engine results.

Disappearance due to DMA

Google initially decided to remove matching service labels from its search engine to comply with new European regulations. Among other things, this aims to break monopolistic situations. Consequently, to avoid promoting its own services over those of its competitors, Google had to deactivate some of its related services that appear by default in search results.

” As part of our efforts to comply with the Digital Marketplace Regulations, we have made a number of changes to the way we display search results, including removing some features. EU users will no longer see the Maps label at the top of the search page. ” a representative of the Mountain View giant told us at the time.

But it seems that some things have changed. Google has partially restored access to Google Maps on its search engine results page. Partially because, once again, only the Maps button is active, next to the buttons that allow you to filter results by type. The map preview that appears in results after searching for an address always remains greyed out and does not open the Google Maps app when you click on it.
