Quebec, gourmet city: activities to put on the calendar, including pizza week

The arrival of spring also marks the return of several gourmet events. I offer you four that will take place in the coming days or weeks. Mark the calendar!

Pizza week

This pizza celebration is back from 1eh until 7 May. Dozens of restaurants in the region will offer you unique creations available for a limited time. It’s a great opportunity to rediscover your favorite pizzeria or try a new one. Some restaurateurs offer exciting creations, such as Portofino with its pizza with fried burrata, mortadella, arugula and peppers.

Others rely on the classics that made them famous, like Pizza Mag, which is promoting its Le Parmesan pizza (mozzarella, tomatoes, onions, Kalamata olives, basil) during the event.

Cultures in the city

This is a brand new event for food lovers in Quebec that will be held from May 2nd to 5th. The purpose of the event? Put the spotlight on gastronomy and urban agriculture. For the occasion, Rue Saint-Jean will be pedestrianized between Rue D’Auteuil and Côte du Palais, and will host a large outdoor terrace. On Thursday and Friday, gourmet bites, inspired by basil, are offered. A $5 coupon lets you try three appetizers made by participating brands. On Thursday it will be Le beadeau, Bistro Hortus and Chez Murphy’s, while on Friday you can discover the creations of Oh mon kogo, La Galette Libanaise and Pub Saint-Alexandre.

In addition, some restaurateurs will offer dishes with urban agricultural products, such as those from Ô Champignons, microgreens from Wakop or even insect protein from Intrinsekt, which will be particularly highlighted in an egg in meurette from Chez Boulay. Great discoveries await the epicurean.

Free fields

Les Labours, located in the Hôtel & Spa Le Germain Charlevoix in Baie-Saint-Paul, offers a gastronomic experience that piqued my curiosity. During six Thursday evenings in May and June, the guest chefs will take turns in the establishment’s kitchen. They want carte blanche to create a menu inspired by seasonal produce from the region. The series begins on May 2 with none other than Jean-Luc Boulay, chef and co-owner of Saint-Amour for 45 years.

Chef Jean-Luc Boulay will be the first guest of the Champs Libres series at Les Labors restaurant in Baie-Saint-Paul.

Then the guests will be Éric Lessard and Charles Gignac from 101 Restaurant de district, Emeline Péro and Laurent Gauthier from Botanistes, Benoit Poliquin from Albacore, Patrick Dubé from Labor as well as Stéphane Modat from Clan, to end the event in style on the 27th.

Reservation required. Details on the Hôtel Germain website.

The party in the field

Does a six-course feast on the field mean anything to you? Don’t miss the eighth edition of Festin dans le champ de la Fromagerie des Grondines, which will be held on July 6. I’m telling you about it now because tickets usually sell out pretty quickly for this cheese-lover’s delight fundraiser dinner.

The Feast in the Field takes place in a bucolic setting in Deschambault.

Six chefs from Portneuf will each prepare a dish containing products from the Fromagerie des Grondines, as well as locally produced food. Everything is served in bucolic surroundings and for a good cause. The proceeds will be donated to the family of Delphine, a local child who suffered from a congenital infection that left her with serious consequences, and to the Saint-Charles-de-Grondines School Foundation.

Tickets are available for $125 per person by calling the Cheese Shop at 418-268-4969 or by visiting the store located at 274, 2e East Range, in Deschambault.
